Irene has been hiking the mountains around La Thuile all her life, and I have been following her in the past 25 years. One might imagine we did roam those valleys trough and trough, but this year we were able to surprise ourselves. In a week we managed to hike a couple of peaks we never had before; to attempt (and bail out!) a multi-pitch route above Courmayeur beyond our means (and nevertheless reach another new peak); and to finally meet friends we had not see since too many years. Even when the sun was too hot, the rock too steep or the wind too chill, I am really grateful we could do all this as a family.
